Early on in my husband’s cancer diagnosis, I knew that without the Lord’s guidance we could not make the wisest decisions about the maze of options and treatments that faced us. Psalm 127:1 tells us that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” So, we decided to bring every decision to Him in prayer and seek His counsel before moving forward.
His Word promises “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 32:8) And He did just that! The decisions we took, with God as our guide, led to my husband’s complete healing and we delight to shout it from the rooftops!
Wherever you are today in your journey, include God in your plans and go to the Scriptures for guidance. He speaks to us through His Word and you can trust it!
Here are a few of the Scriptures that guided me through our year of treatments and recovery. They were a compass to my soul and I believed He would bring these promises to pass.
“They cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and He saved them in their distress.
“He sent forth His word and healed them;
he rescued from the grave.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love
and His wonderful deeds for men.”
“Blessed is he who has regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.
The Lord will protect him and preserve his life;
he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed
and restore him from his bed of illness.” (Psalm 41: 1-3)
“I lift my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip– He who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you– the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm– He will watch over your life;
The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
“Ask and it will be given you
Seek and you shall find
Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
